Low Voltage Done Wrong Is Very Dangerous
I made this for everyone to learn the WHY & the HOW. Hope you learn something. Just remember, Low voltage doesn’t mean low risk.
A bad install can burn wires, damage equipment, and cost you money. Safety and performance only come from doing it right.
- Voltage Drop Test is a Must
- Put a voltmeter on the pump while it’s running.
- If it’s more than 3% below source voltage, wiring is choking the pump.
- Example: Battery 13.8V → Pump 11.9V = Too much drop.
- Length Counts Twice
- Total length = positive run + ground return.
- 10 ft run = 20 ft of wire in the math.
- Charts mislead because they forget the return path.
- Run the Numbers
- Use Ohm’s Law and proper charts.
- Figure continuous + surge amp draw.
- Measure both ways.
- Always size up one or 2 wire gauge beyond what’s called for.
Learn Ohm’s Law so you understand the WHY.
Use a voltage meter so you can prove the HOW.
Always test your builds—because guessing is dangerous.

All of this comes back to Ohm’s Law. If you don’t understand it, you can’t install properly.
Otherwise, you’ll waste tons of money on equipment and the worst cost of all — downtime.
I’ve seen too many bad installs not to speak up.
I’ve also watched friends pay for trailers and builds that were way overpriced for the parts they actually got.
Don’t let that be you. Be eduated to have it done the correct way. It’s just a headace for all parties.
Do the test! This is the only way to know, if it is done right. You can use this test on your machines. You can do this test on any setup on the build. You sould always make sure its correct. Do it 1 time, and go work more! Downtime Well you know not saying it.

In this field, you must know how to use a multimeter (voltage meter). You can’t afford to guess when troubleshooting — you need to see the problem clearly.
